I have loved contests most of my life. As a kid, I saved up all of my car washing money to buy a book devoted to winning contests. I entered and won many essay contests in school, as well. Since the boom of the Internet, contests have morphed into a huge marketing tool used by a plethora of web sites.
In the early days of the Internet, I would enter every contest that didn't require a fee and which highlighted a prize I was keen on. Not long after, my email inbox was innundated with spam. I backed off on my contest entering and focused on my writing.
Today, I make a decent living freelance writing, but I have the most fun writing essays to win prizes. Even if the prize offered is less than I would have made for a work assignment, I still love the competitiveness of it and the feeling of jubilee when I learn that I've won something because of my skill.
I'm sure there are tons of folks out there who share my sentiment, so I decided to create a blog where I could post links to legitimate contests that require skill. There will also be a section for non-skill based contests and sweepstakes, but the bulk of the information on this site will be dedicated to winning based on some form of skill.
I will be updating this site frequently, so don't forget to bookmark the Scavenger Skills Blog and good luck....er..uh..skillz:)
